AWARD WINNERS

MUTA

MUTA | interior design

Muta was developed for an international
business competition:
James Mcguire AWARD.

Along with the designers Lauren Moore and Nici Ponce, I have entered the competition as a way of developing our business skills. We didn’t have – at the time – any pretension of winning, since we had only two months to develop a product and a business model, against teams that were already working on it for months – some even for years.

We have developed an acoustic tile named Muta, made from recycled paper, addressing our focus on the noise pollution created by the over-crowed cities (expected to grow even more) and the large amount of paper waste produced in our society.

Muta has won the first prize in the Italian local phase.

PAPER RECYCLER

PAPER RECYCLER |product design

This competition’s briefing, proposed by NABA – Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti – was very wide: “to rethink home objects for a New Humanity”.

That made me think about one of the oldest material that has been around humanity, with few changes in its interaction, although huge environmental impacts: paper.

Therefore, how about a small intervention on how we consume and waste this material?
The solution was a recycling-on-spot paper machine, requiring simple already known technologies: a shredder, a blender and a small water pump to fill the drawers.

This project won first place and granted me a scholarship at the M.A. in Product Design at NABA.
